Manager, Structural and Stress Analysis

TerraPower, LLC. is seeking a highly motivated Engineering Manager to manage the engineering efforts of the Structural and Stress Analysis (SSA) team for the Natrium reactor project. This role will manage SSA team and focus on execution to assure technical adequacy in accordance with the company, regulator, and industry standards, with an emphasis on structural analysis. The SSA Manager will support the analytical work for Natrium Reactor enclosure system and Reactor Core system including managing component/system analysis, training, staffing requirements and personnel performance.  The SSA Manager will report to the Senior Manager of Mechanical Engineering Analysis (MEA) group.

Responsibilities

·       Keep Mechanical Engineering Analysis Senior Manager and engineering management informed of major emerging technical issues.

·       Interface with regulators, stakeholders, and customers on discipline design issues.

.       Support Senior Manager and the Director on achieving department goals and milestones, resource planning, and budgeting.

·       Ensure that work process execution and technical adequacy within the team scope are in accordance with the requirements, project standards, and industry standards.

·       Support all analytical work that is on-going and to be performed through scope management, progress tracking in support of project team, review, and approval.

·       Assist in the recruitment, onboarding, and indoctrination of new engineers in SSA team.

·       Recommend staff changes (replacements due to attrition, new requirements, de-staffing).

·       Assist in resolving priority conflicts in conjunction with the projects when issues arise that compete for resources.  Elevate those that cannot be resolved to the Senior Manager level.

·       Support employee development through mentoring, training, and challenging assignments within the specific engineering program efforts as assigned.

·       Perform self-assessments of work processes and technical adequacy.

·       Demonstrate visible, continuous leadership in the timely delivery of task with quality and improving work efficiency.

·       Prepare, review and concur with technical content of PRs and subcontract packages prior to bid within project and discipline areas or responsibility within the SSA manager scope.

·       Approve discipline specific engineering products/documents.

.       Verify accurate and appropriate time charging of employees.

Key Qualifications and Skills

.       Expertise in planning, building, reviewing, and guiding in the areas of nuclear reactor component Analysis and Methods.

.       B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited University. Aerospace, Nuclear, and Civil Engineering degrees are also considered.

.       Minimum 12 years of related experience with B.S. degree; or 8 years with M.S. degree; or 5 years with Ph.D. degree and ability to produce a high-quality work product.

·       At least 3 years in technical leadership role with ongoing requirement for performance of project technical scope, in addition to other managerial responsibilities.

·       Experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III, Piping Code B31.1 or B31.3, ASCE 43, ASME NQA-1, and 10 CFR 50 Appendix B are highly desirable.

.       Two plus years of previous experience in the nuclear industry.

·       Experience in FEA analysis utilizing ANSYS, and CAD modeling with SolidWorks.

.       In-depth knowledge of solid mechanics, fracture mechanics, and metal fatigue principles.

.       Strong understanding in mechanical analysis of equipment or components including stress (also thermal) analysis, seismic analysis, buckling analysis, vibration analysis, thermal cyclic analysis, and creep analysis.

·       Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently during a given work week.

·       Excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills.

·       Ability to work with minimum direction to solve challenging problems.

.       Candidate must be able to work with in-person arrangements.

Job details

Salary Range Level 12:  $169,922 - $235,464

*Typically, our employee salaries are within .90 – 1.0 of the mid-point of the posted salary band. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected individual’s qualifications and experience.  This range is specific to Washington State.
