Manager, Natrium Simulator Development

TerraPower, LLC; is seeking a highly motivated Manager, Natrium Simulator Development to focus on the development of the Training Simulator, Natrium (TSN). The successful candidate will provide leadership for simulator design and vendor oversight for the Natrium Demonstration Nuclear Plant. This role will include interfacing directly with the simulator vendor and a team of scientists, engineers, and contractors, both internal and external to TerraPower. The Manager, Natrium Simulator Development will identify key risks and provide innovative solutions to solving the challenges related to developing a first-of-a-kind Natrium nuclear power plants.  

Responsibilities

  Maintain a positive work atmosphere and inclusive company culture.

  Manage a Natrium simulator team, including budgeting, staffing, and planning.

  Manage project risks and monitor design development progress of the Natrium simulator projects.

  Review Natrium simulator design work documents covering design, integration, and implementation of work products and other system design documents for the Natrium nuclear demo plant.

  Maintain and drive the system design schedule aligned with overall Natrum plant design and licensing plan, establishing the logic ties with interfacing system activities and licensing tasks.

  Perform one-on-one meetings with simulator design team members on a weekly basis.

  Identify critical high-risk areas and initiate proactive measures to prevent potential project delay.

  Review and approve engineering deliverables from other engineering organizations, partners, and vendors.

  Perform semi-annual and annual performance review for each team member. 

  Organize weekly team meetings for task progress status, project update, interface work tracing, future actions.

  Provide weekly summary reports to senior management about critical task progress, potential delays, challenges, resource needs etc.

  Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices in order to maintain the highest quality of engineering design and proactively identify process change/enhancement opportunities.

  Manage and interface with subcontractors, vendors and partners providing directions and assimilating their work.

Key Qualifications and Skills

  B.S. in an associated engineering discipline and a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant engineering experience in digital system design is required.

  A minimum of (5) years of proven leadership experience is required.

  Technical competencies and familiarity with simulator design or simulator program management is required.

  Experience in successful delivery of nuclear power plant simulators is highly desirable.

  Experience with nuclear power plant design or operations is a plus.

  Experience with first-of-a-kind or high temperature nuclear reactor design projects is a bonus.

  Familiarity with nuclear simulator related industrial codes, standards and regulations, especially 10 CFR Part 55, RG 1.149, NEI 09-09 and NUREG 0711 helpful.

  Familiarity with ANSI/ANS-3.5 – Nuclear Power Plant Simulators for Use in Operator Training and Examination.

  Experience with Real Time system design including hardware and software lifecycle development is valuable.

  Project planning, and vendor management/oversight experience is important. 

  Familiarity with commercial project management tools (e.g., Oracle Primavera P6).

  Strong analytical/problem solving skills, creative thinker, and organized.

  Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently during a given work week.

  Ability to handle projects that include multiple objectives and ability to resolve conflicts between objectives.

  Excellent writing and communication skills

  Ability to work independently to solve challenging problems and provide recommendations in a timely manner.

  The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trustworthiness and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.

Salary Range Level 12: $169,922 - $235,464

Salary Range Level 13: $194,197 - $279,158

*Typically, our employee salaries are within .90 – 1.0 of the mid-point of the posted salary band. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected individual’s qualifications and experience.  This range is specific to Washington State.
