AI Engineer

TerraPower is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented, and collaborative AI Engineer to join our growing IT team. A successful candidate responds to time-sensitive situations with the right balance of expeditious and orderly actions. A successful candidate will demonstrate integrity, awareness and adaptability working in a diverse team with frequent shifting priorities.

As an AI Engineer, you will play an important role in building out AI tools to support our mission of nuclear energy innovation. From building AI solutions to protecting the organization's digital assets and proprietary information, to ensuring personnel are relying on accurate data. Your responsibilities will include identifying new opportunities to leverage AI and maintaining documentation for existing solutions use and deployments. You will be providing technical support to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to the AI's functionality, responding to incidents and relevant AI help desk tickets, training end-users in AI best practices.  You will work daily to achieve the goal of empowering and augmenting TerraPower’s human capital with AI capabilities, recognizing that your work is critical to, the company’s mission of safe and reliable nuclear power.  The AI team’s purpose is to support the nuclear designers and engineers and will build AI systems that fit within their existing work processes.

Key Responsibilities 

         Strict adherence to established software development and project management procedures, many of which are based on nuclear and international standards.

         You will build safe and responsible AI systems.

         Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to discuss product development, identify uses of AI tools, and figure out how to leverage tools to make processes more efficient

         Drafting, refining, and testing text prompts to make sure they are yielding the desired outcome

         Collaborate closely with subject matter experts to gather insights and domain knowledge for effective intent creation

         Ensure the most efficient use of a constellation of different state-of-the-art AI models deployed on our Azure tenant infrastructure.

         Optimizing text prompts based on feedback from users

         Staying up to date with the latest developments in AI and machine learning

         Use LLMs to process large data swaths, create desired outcomes, and shape bot logic

         Use Excel and basic analysis tools to evaluate the efficiency of the LLM prompts

Qualifications

         Bachelor's degree in computer science, computational Linguistics, or a related field

         2+ years experience in developing and deploying web applications. Preference will be given to tools that employ chatbot or conversational AI systems.

         Ability to quickly learn the quickly evolving fundamentals of modern AI architectures

         In-depth knowledge of natural language processing techniques

         2+ years of C# programming with familiarity with other programing languages (Python, R, etc.)

         Understanding of deep learning architectures and frameworks

         Own problems end-to-end, and are willing to pick up whatever knowledge you're missing to get the job done

         Have a good intuition for when off-the-shelf solutions will work, but ability to build tools to accelerate your own workflow quickly if they won’t

         Have the ability to move fast in an environment where things are sometimes loosely defined and may have competing priorities or deadlines

         Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, and implement feedback quickly

         Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities

         Strong communication skills

         (preferred) Fluent in the processes described in IEEE/IEC/ISO 29148:2018.

         (preferred) 2+ years of experience in an organization with a strong nuclear safety culture (other OSHA compliant organizational cultures can be considered equivalent).

         (preferred) 2+ years of experience in an organization with classified or similarly controlled records.

         (preferred) Experience verifying compliance and testing the safety of Generative AI systems.

         (preferred) One or more prior projects leveraging retrieval augmented generation.

         (required) One of more prior projects leveraging the OpenAI API (or equivalent).

         Ability to quantitatively demonstrate the value of your AI solutions in service to a nuclear design organization.

         Intuitive understanding of cloud computing (containerization, Kubernetes, etc.) and cloud networking (virtual networks, firewalls, etc.) in the Azure ecosystem.

         Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the following technologies:

·        Microsoft Bot Builder Framework SDK

·        Azure Cosmos DB

·        Azure Bot Service

·        Azure Container Service

Salary Range Level 9: $95,414 - $143,122

Salary Range Level 10: $109,446 - $164,169

*Typically, our employee salaries are within .90 – 1.0 of the mid-point of the posted salary bands.  Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.  This range is specific to Washington State.
